Travelling to Badachro

Road

Coming by road, you are most likely to arrive in Inverness from the south on the A9. To reach Badachro you should follow the A9 north from the city over the Kessock Bridge and follow the A835 at the Tore Roundabout which takes you to Garve beyond which the A832 turns off to Gairloch and Achnasheen. At Achnasheen follow the A832 on through Kinlochewe and down Loch Maree until, 3 miles south of Gailroch you see the sighs for the B8056 to Red Point and Badachro.

If you are already in the Highlands you can also reach Gairloch from the north, coming south from Ullapool on the A835 and following the A832 at Braemore. The Badachro turn-off is three miles south. From the souther Highlands and Skye follow the A890 which turns off the A87 5 miles south of Kyle of Lochalsh and join the A832 at Achnasheen.

Bus & Taxi

There is a bus service to and from Inverness which runs several times a day as well as the Post Bus. You can find bus information and contact numbers at:

UK Bus Timetable Directory

There are taxi services in the area, too. Try Hy-Jack or the Celtic Fringe Travel Pages.

Travelling from Inverness the journey of 80 miles takes about one and a half hours.

Train

There is a twice-daily train service between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh which stops at Achnasheen, 30 miles from Badachro, so you'd need to organise transport for the final stage of your journey. Train timetables can be found at National Rail Enquiries.

Plane

Flights arrive at Inverness Airport from several UK and European destinations, as well as from all of the Highlands. From there it is an easy step to hire a car, catch a bus or train from Inverness itself, or organise for a friend to pick you up.

Sea

There are ferry links to and from the Outer Isles from Ullapool, 70 miles to the north. To the south a ferry still crosses at Kyle where the Skye Bridge gives easy motoring access now. 6° West, the Gairloch-Portree cruise/ferry service launched in 2004 re-opens its service with a new vessel in Spring 2007. Also, certain Hebridean Princess cruises berth at Gairloch.

Badachro (57º 42' N 5º 43' W) is also popular anchorage and there are mooring facilities in Badachro Bay opposite the Inn. Badachro Inn provides two moorings free of charge to customers. One is directly opposite the Inn and closest to the Jetty and River and the other, a deep water mooring, close by the West side of Isle Horrisdale, within the Bay. Both are marked by a white buoy with an orange pick-up. Please have your own warp ready for mooring.
