Badachro Village

Badachro is on the south side of Loch Gairloch, in its own sheltered bay. All around are rising hills, among them Baosbheinn, to the east, and Beinn Alligin in the Torridon mountains, to the south. Farther to the east and visible from viewpoints around the bay is Slioch. To the west, beyond the island of Longa you can see Skye over Aird and through the mouth of the loch on a clear day, the Outer Hebrides.

Badachro village from Aird

Badachro has gone through may changes and has grown over the years. Always one of the best anchorages on this part of the coast, as little as fifty or sixty years ago it was still mainly a crofting and fishing village.

Times changed, people moved away and tourism became important. There is still a small year-round local population but many of the original cottages are now holiday homes some of which are available for short-term summer lets (see the Come & Stay section for more about this). There are a quite a number of new cottages too. Some of those are available for self catering. The shops and the post office are all gone now (although there are plenty in Strath, three miles away). The Inn, however, remains the focal point of the village for residents and visitors alike.
